GLACIER meeting at IPB

On July 5-6, GLACIER fellows, scientists and interested parties met for the GLACIER workshop in Halle. The GLACIER PI team had invited to the networking meeting, which took place at the Leibniz Institute of Plant Biochemistry (IPB). GLACIER fellows presented their current state of research, and the program also featured several talks by renowned scientists in the GLACIER focus areas of immunology, vaccine and drug discovery, and social sciences. During the workshop session, questions such as "How to intensify the collaboration within the GLACIER consortium in the future?" or "How can we increase the participation of the smaller Latin American countries of the project in the network?" were lively discussed in colorful mixed groups. During the dinner that followed, it was possible to continue exchanging ideas and making contacts in an informal atmosphere. All in all, it was a very successful event that offered the participants a lot of input and networking opportunities.

The German-Latin American Centre of Infection & Epidemiology Research & Training (GLACIER) is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office under the DAAD Global Centers for Health and Pandemic Preparedness funding program since May 2021. This multidisciplinary consortium of leading experts and regional leaders in pandemic research and virology from Charité and UNAM together with Latin America's top vaccine and therapeutics developers in Cuba and their German and Mexican partners aims to strengthen surveillance of emerging infectious diseases, diagnostics and treatment resistance, and development of new vaccines and therapeutics. The project aims to create a capacity-building program that includes research and problem-based learning and focuses on prevention, vigilance, treatment, and response to unforeseen health challenges in the future.
