IPB-Alumni are active in high positions worldwide
After their stay at the institute, many IPB alumni have made careers worldwide and hold senior positions in science, industry, and public sector. Below are a few examples from the academic world:
Professor Katharina Bürstenbinder
Katharina Bürstenbinder has led the Cellular Coordination research group in the Department of Molecular Signal Processing at the IPB since 2010. For her excellent research results, she was included in AcademiaNet - an expert database for outstanding female scientists - in 2022. Since November 2023, Ms. Bürstenbinder has been Professor of Cell Biology at the Philipps University of Marburg.
Professor Martin Weissenborn
In 2016, Martin Weissenborn was jointly appointed by Martin-Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) and IPB as Junior Professor for "Bioorganic Chemistry" and led an Independent Junior Research Group at IPB for six years. He successfully proved himself in his tenure-track position and became a professor at MLU in 2023.
Professor Stefanie Ranf-Zipproth
Stefanie Ranf has been PhD student and postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Stress and Developmental Biology from 2005 to 2012. In 2013, she moved to the Technical University of Munich, where she first headed a junior group and later an Emmy Noether junior research group. Stefanie Ranf has been professor in the research field of Plant and Microbial Sciences at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland since February 2022.
Professor Goran Kaluderovic
Goran Kaluderovic came to IPB in July 2012 as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow and most recently has been head of the Project Group Anticancer Agents and Targeting in the Department of Bioorganic Chemistry. Since June 2018 he has been appointed Professor of Inorganic and Environmental Chemistry at Merseburg University of Applied Sciences.
Professor Marco Trujillo
From 2011 to 2018, Marco Trujillo headed the Independent Junior Research Group Ubiquitination in Immunity at the IPB. Afterwards, he received an interims professorship in the Department of Cell Biology at the University of Freiburg. Since 2023, he is full professor for Molecular Plant Physiology at RWTH Aachen University.
Professor Marcel Quint
Marcel Quint headed the first Independent Junior Research Group, which was established at IPB in 2007 as part of the Exzellenznetzwerk Strukturen und Meachnismen der Biologischen Informationsverarbeitung. His group Auxin Signal Transduction was integrated into the Department of Molecular Signal Processing in 2010. Since July 2015, he has been appointed professor of Crop Yield Physiology at the Faculty of Agricultural and Nutritional Sciences at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg.
Professor Daniel Garcia Rivera
Daniel Garcia Rivera received his PhD in 2007 in the Department of Bioorganic Chemistry and still regularly visits the institute as a guest scientist. Since 2007 he has been appointed Deputy Director of the Center for Natural Products Research at the University of Havana and since 2011 Associate Professor of Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry.
Professor Thorsten Nürnberger
From 1994 to 2003, Thorsten Nürnberger was head of the Peptide Receptors Group in the Department of Stress and Developmental Biology at the IPB. He was subsequently appointed to the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and heads the Department of Plant Biochemistry at the Center for Plant Molecular Biology.
