What are the duties of an IT specialist? What does a biology laboratory actually look like? What are the skills required to become a gardener? On the “Day of Vocational Training”, the IPB foyer was teeming with students, parents and interested people that wanted these questions answered. The Employment Agency organizes this annual event together with local companies to assist students early on in their vocational choice. As in previous years, the IPB presented itself as an institution that provides vocational training to become a gardener, biological laboratory technician, IT specialist or office management assistant. The IPB’s trainee instructors and trainees explained the different professions to visitors using posters designed by the current IPB trainees themselves. Students could easily engage in conversations about the training process and try out pipettes, planting pots and computers. While Katja Baumann-Kaschig offered tours through a laboratory, Christian Müller showed people around on the IPB’s outside grounds to explain everything about the gardener’s training. In particular, he stressed the high standard and broadness of training at the IPB. "For example, only few corporations can teach their trainees how to prune vines", he pointed out while showing the recently planted vines. On that day, around 70 visitors used the opportunity to get to know the IPB, and maybe some of them will return as trainees.
