Prof. Dr. Claus Wasternack from the IPB and Prof. Dr. Ivo Feussner from the University of Göttingen were recently invited to write a review for the renowned journal Annual Review of Plant Biology. In their article entitled "The Oxylipin Pathways: Biochemistry and Function", the authors summarize the state of knowledge on plant oxylipins, a group of signaling molecules derived from oxygenated fatty acids. These include jasmonates, which are important phytohormones that mediate defense responses but also control plant development. Earlier, in 2002, Wasternack and Feussner had written a review on the topic, which was so successful (804 citations; as of March 7, 2018), that the journal's selection committee approached both authors for an update. That meant both honor and obligation for Wasternack and Feussner, because Annual Review of Plant Biology with its Journal Impact Factor of 22.8 (2016) is the highest-ranking journal for reviews in the plant sciences. We congratulate the authors on the publication. The review was pre-released online in November 2017 and the final version will be published in April 2018.
