Khansa Mekkaoui was awarded a poster prize at this year’s Botaniktagung - the international conference of the German Society for Plant Sciences - which took place in Bonn from August 28 to September 1. The doctoral student studies the biosynthesis of the phytohormone jasmonate under the supervision of Prof. Bettina Hause (Department of Cell and Metabolic Biology) and is part of the DFG-funded Research Training Group RTG2498 "Communication and Dynamics of Plant Cell Compartments". In her project, which nears completion, Khansa collected data on the localization of transporters for precursors of jasmonate and found indications that steps in jasmonate biosynthesis may not be as strictly partitioned to specific cell compartments as previously thought. At the Botaniktagung, her excellent poster presentation landed her among the award-winning top 10 of a total of 309 posters. “Participating in this conference was a great experience. I was able to meet plant scientists from different research fields, discover interesting research topics and get valuable feedback on my work.” the award winner reports enthusiastically. We congratulate her on the poster award and wish her continued success in the final spurt of her dissertation!
