A novel institution for child care has been recently opened on the Weinberg-Campus at the beginning of this month. WeinbergKids is a jointly financed project of the Studentenwerk Halle, the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and the student council of the University. It serves for the care of preschool children at marginal times.
The children are supervised in the low-rise building at Kurt-Mothes-Str. 8, directly on the Weinberg-Campus. The building has been specially converted and equipped suitably for children. Up to ten children can be daily supervised by two care persons in two time periods from 3.30 to 6 pm and 6 to 8.30 pm, respectively.
The offer is mainly aimed at students and employees of the Martin Luther University and the Studentenwerk Halle. Additionally, members of research associations and employees of non-university research institutes (like the IPB) could keep their children at the WeinbergKids institution. Students have to pay 2 €, employees 5 € per hour for the supervision service. The child care periods can be booked fast and uncomplicated online on the website www.weinbergkids.de.
The child care service means more flexibility and freedom for the students and employees during their everyday time management. Late seminars or working times and family matters can be brought in line much better. Thus, the project WeinbergKids is another successful step to reconciling studies or research and family. The certificate „family-friendly university“ was granted to the MLU already in 2009. In 2012, the re-auditing has been successfully completed.
