On the occasion of the retirement of Prof. Dierk Scheel, the IPB will host a festive colloquium with reception on Friday, April 13, 2018.
Since 1994, Prof. Scheel has headed the Department of Stress and Developmental Biology and held the Chair of Developmental Biology at the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg. 1998-2004 and 2005-2007, he was Managing Director of the IPB. The colloquium will honor his scientific accomplishments with welcome addresses, a laudatory speech, and a scientific lecture. The band Die Blauen Sterne from Halle will offer a jazzy musical backdrop to the event.
A successor of the Chair of Stress and Developmental Biology will be appointed later this year. "Until the baton is handed over, Prof. Scheel will act as interim chair and then he will remain a life-long guest and member of the IPB," says Prof. Steffen Abel, Managing Director of the IPB, "that's why I see the event on April 13, not so much as a farewell, but more as an occasion to pause, look back, and express our gratitude to Dierk Scheel."
