On June 23, 2022, the IPB co-organized and hosted the 2nd Summer Get-Together for PhD students in the natural sciences at the University of Halle (MLU). Ten PhD programs, including the Leibniz Research School PlantBioChem of IPB, had invited their students to the networking event. The event began with a talk on career planning for the approximately 50 young scientists attending. Dr. Anne Schreiter from the German Scholars Organisation e.V. spoke about how to identify your strengths, interests and career goals and what tools and strategies you can use to achieve them. The speaker expertly used activities to enrich the two-and-a-half-hour workshop and stimulate interaction among the diverse group of participants. At the buffet that followed, attendees could continue networking, enjoy conversations and the summer evening on the terrace.

The Research School Network Halle, launched in 2019 and supported by the International Graduate Academy of MLU (InGrA), is a network of coordinators of natural science doctoral programs affiliated with the MLU. The joint activities aim to exploit synergies in the organization of events for doctoral students and to promote interdisciplinary networking among young scientists on campus. The first and, due to the pandemic, last Summer Get-Together took place in 2019 at the neighboring Max Planck Institute for Microstructure Physics. Plans are underway to expand the network to include other graduate schools in the natural sciences.
