Young researchers of the Uzbek Academy of Sciences visit the IPB

From 05-19 October, 2019, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) initiated an information tour for young Uzbek researchers throughout Germany. Previously selected in a national competition in Uzbekistan, the 15 participants came to gain an overview of the German university and non-university research landscape and to initiate contacts.

In this context, the delegation, accompanied by representatives of the BMBF and the Uzbek Ministry of Innovation, also visited the ScienceCampus Halle (WCH) and the IPB on 14 October. After a short presentation of the WCH and the Martin Luther University's Univations Start-Up Service, followed by a workshop on creative ideation, the visitors were given a tour of the IPB greenhouses and phytochambers. Most of the Uzbek scientists came from institutes of the Uzbek Academy of Sciences and their expertise ranged from agriculture and economics to chemistry, astronomy and modern laser technologies. In spite of these partly unrelated disciplines, our guests were extremely interested in the research topics of the IPB. There were intensive discussions and repeated expressions of interest for joint cooperation.

Following the trip, the insights gained will be presented at innoWeek.uz, the largest Uzbek innovation fair. Intensifying contacts between both countries in the area of innovation and research shall result in a joint call for research projects in the coming year.
