Prof. Katayoon (Katie) Dehesh, a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the IPB, was recently elected to the Leopoldina German National Academy of Sciences. She is Professor of Molecular Biochemistry at the University of California, Riverside, and director of the Institute for Integrative Genome Biology.

Prof. Dehesh now belongs to the Leopoldina Class II - Life Sciences and together with other new members of the class, will receive her certificate on May 23, 2018. At the subsequent Leopoldina Life Science Symposium on May 24, 2018, the newly admitted members will introduce themselves and their research. Prof. Dehesh will also give a lecture at the Leopoldina Symposium entitled "Retrograde signaling; a journey to an ancient pathway". The IPB congratulates Prof. Dehesh on this great distinction.

With around 1,500 members, the Leopoldina unites outstanding scientists from Germany and around 30 other countries. Plant researcher Prof. Dehesh has contributed significantly to the understanding of light-dependent growth, so-called photomorphogenesis, stress response and the signal transduction from organelles to the nucleus - also known as a retrograde signaling. In particular, her expertise lies in researching the question of how fatty acids act as signal molecules in plant stress responses.

The event on May 23 and 24, 2018 is aimed at all interested persons, scientists and students. Participation is free. Registration until May 22, 2018 is requested.

Further information can be found on the event page of the Leopoldina.
