Long Night of Sciences: IPB is a magnet on campus

Despite a two-year Corona break, this year's Long Night of Science was, as usual, very well attended. This was the case even though we did not offer an experimental and quiz program on July 1, 2022, which usually attracts legions of interested people. Instead, there was an exciting lecture program on plant science, but this did not dampen the flow of visitors. Our guests came, saw and listened to the excellent lectures. The first, given by Tom Schreiber, took people deep into the world of CRISPR gene scissors and the possibilities of their application. In the second lecture, Steffen Abel gave an interesting overview of existing and dwindling resources and energy cycles on Earth. Bettina Hause spoke about hormone imbalances in flower development and Christin Naumann talked on plant strategies to deal with nutrient deficiencies. Thomas Vogt's presentation was quite peppery, and included a taste of the pungency of pepper and its biochemical background. And finally, Martin Dippe and Pascal Pecher served licorice root and stevia, accompanied by a wonderful lecture on plant odors and flavors. All in all, a successful event. The lecture hall was always well filled and the IPB has once again proved its reputation as a magnet on the Weinberg.
